VRlog highlights 360 panoramic photography by Erik Goetze

Starting way back in the mid 1990's, I captured thousands of 360 panoramas of parks, natural areas, and the wilderness. Many of these were published on virtualparks.org using QuickTime VR.

Over time, QuickTime VR became a legacy technology. Fewer and fewer people were able to view QTVR panoramas. And it's been a slow process to rebuild all those virtual reality scenes using plugin-free web technologies.

The scene above is an example of a new easier way to bring 30 year old QTVR's back to life. I photographed this in 12 shots around using a 17mm lens at about 3PM on April 7th, 1996 on Kodak Gold film. It shows Bear Creek, Portola Redwoods State Park amongst the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains in the Bay Area of California. It was my 92nd 360 panorama.

Vintage Viewer is the new tool made by Jim Heid which brings QuickTime VR movies and QuickTake photos back to life on a modern Mac.
